Will did eventually get that baby open and inside, along with the card that I could not engage Will's full attention toward, was the cutest, coolest most clever and funny of children's books.
One of Will's godmoms is a kindy teacher and she knows what a good kid's book looks like.
The three books from the Scaredy Squirrel collection are something that any parent would enjoy reading to their child as they would enjoy the bigger world nuances that fill this book. It is a reassurance for both kids and their parents to read and it is an invitation to see the world beyond our individual comfort zones.
Any children's book that I have ever flipped through at the bookstore that invites a reader to various vocal inflections, accents or dramatizations is something I quickly scoop up. What child wouldn't love to hear mom, dad or big sis sound surprising or goofy while reading a story. If you want to engage kids in books, become a goofy parent and let yourself become engaged with the action and characters within a story. Vocal inflections help carry a storyline for a child and helps them understand the tone of a story, the action, and the emotions of a character.
If you are one of those drippy parents, like me, who actually give books as birthday gifts to kids (or bookstore gift cards for older, more sophisticated readers), then this Canadian series is sure to be a big hit.
