All set for flu season

I took Will, Jack and Olivia to the new doctors office to get their flu shots. We were almost immediately brought into an exam room and the really nice nurse asked us who was going first. The room was silent as each of the kids waited for a brave sibling to offer to go first. Will actually didn't care after he spotted the toy box in the corner of the room. He was gleefully pulling cars and trucks out from the box and skidding them across the little bit of available floor space not occupied by eight feet. We all decided that Will was the bravest one of all. Actually, it was a bit of rationalizing that brought us to this conclusion. We figured that if Will saw any sort of alarmed reaction, no matter how subtle, he would be tipped off that this wasn't going to be an enjoyable experience. Nurse wanted leg on Will. Will, still not the proud owner of a set of pipes that can accommodate .5cc of flu vaccine, would have to show some leg. Mommy gently held down Will and nurse did the quick stick. Will grimaced, looking around for the cause of the sudden discomfort only to find me holding a car that made him soon forget what the deal was. One Barney band-aid later he was back down on the germy floor playing with the germy cars again. I hoped that the vaccine was fast acting. Really fast acting.
Olivia and Jack were equally brave. They too, got some fancy band-aids, although they didn't carry quite the same consoling effect. Bigger kids know to remain unimpressed with the circus or dinosaur Band-aids. They want a milkshake from McDonalds instead.
So, in my mind we are prepared for the upcoming flu season. I am still going to consult with a girlfriend who has a knack for all things homeopathic. She always has a few immunity boosting tricks up her sleeve. I'm going to stock some of those tricks in my own cupboard too.
