Livia got caught!

i found your blog site some weeks ago and appreciate it alot.
here's a picture i love of livia, who's 18 months old, joined by her brothers when she climbed on dad to be read her favourite book!
by the way, i've been looking into the "out-of-the-box" reading program and read that you're using it with will... would you recommend it?

Ahh, family reading time! I love this and we used to do it almost every night, but now we find it harder as the kids are older and sometimes not home til later...after Will's bedtime. It looks like Livia is in charge of this little family reading huddle :)

As for the Out of The Box reading program...we are using it and it's actually fun. There is some upfront clerical work to do, getting the cards prepared, but really...it's a two cups of coffee job (for me at least). Will is enjoying this program, which is really a no sweat routine once you get started. The older kids also enjoy going through the word cards with Will. One of the premises of the system is that learning the words is about listening and looking. You are not to ever ask the child what the word is, as that is speaking. So, you operate on faith for a while. Just yesterday I went through the cards with Will and he grabbed them from me when we finished. They landed in a jumble on the sofa. He picked up a card to hand to me and said "cookies", and sure enough, that was the card he was holding. I feel good about using the Out of The Box program. It's too early to tell concretely that Will is learning to read, but I like exposing him to all the words. For more info, click the Out of the Box icon in my sidebar.
